Chateau Dona Baissas, Cuvee Prestige 2005

Nose: Tough nose, but definitely some plumb and cherry, nice fruit, and a little chocolate around the edges. Defiantly a little alcohol coming through, but enjoyable. This wine was from a restaurant I work at and has been open for quite a while, not too long, but it should be showing well.

Palate: On the front end of the palate some brine-ey flavors mixed with a little plumb, think turning a bunch of plumbs into olives, but still tasting like plumbs. The mid-palate is a little awkward, kinda bitter tannins but BUT, some really really interesting apple sauce flavors mixed in with the bitter. The back-end is decent a little weak but with some strawberry flavors bleeding into cocoa flavor.

Trader Joe's, Pasco Robles 2007 Cabernet Franc

Color: weird, a really "purple" color, like almost a caricature of what wine "looks" like.

Nose: This has a stellar nose, really interesting. Lots of dark and purple fruit and the hook is this great spice aspect. Defiantly Cinnamon and some curry spices, it is super exciting and awesome to pick apart.

Palate: The beginning of the palate tastes kinda like toothpaste and strawberries (but not quite like strawberry toothpaste) crazy though. The midpalate 'aint that good serving up loads of bitter menthol and "cough medicine" flavors - not very good. Likewise the back-end it begins to rock the plumb and cocoa flavor but then just fades leaving one with a weak mouth-feel.

Overall the palate is a big let-down from the nose, which was super interesting - the mouth-feel is a bit fake and astringent. But its almost worth it for the nose.
